With a range of permanent and limited exhibitions, the Australian Museum in Sydney offers a great way to learn more about Australian history.

The Museum is across from Hyde Park, at the corner of William and College Streets. The best way to get here is by train or bus to Museum Station, followed by a 5-minute walk to the Museum.

What to do 

  • See the exhibits

    The Australian Museum has spent over 190 building collections you can discover, ranging from First Nations culture to dinosaurs, science, climate change, and more. It is the first museum in Australia to house over 21 million scientific specimens and cultural objects.

  • Highlight tours

    From Monday to Friday, highlight tours are available at 10:30am and 1pm. This free tour lasts about 45 minutes and is an introduction to the Museum’s permanent galleries. On the tour, you will have a greater insight into the cultural and scientific collections.

  • Grab some food

    Enjoy the variety of food and drink at the Bistro Gadi, the Billabong Waterhole Cafe, or the Hintze Hall Espresso Bar. Bistro Gadi offers fresh seasonal meals while Billabong Waterhole Cafe and Hintze Hall Espresso Bar serve hot and cold food for takeaway or eat-in.

  • Buy a gift to remember your visit

    When you have finished exploring the Museum’s collection, be sure to stop by the Museum Shop and browse the collection of items. You will find products made by First Nations people, as well as games, fossils, homewares, fashion, and more.
